With John Souttar's contract talks with Rangers stalled, punters should consider betting against the likelihood of him remaining at the club beyond this season, given his unclear future.
JOHN SOUTTAR has revealed his contract talks with Rangers have stalled. The Scotland defender’s current Ibrox deal runs out at the end of the season.
And the 28 year-old - who signed from Hearts in January 2022 - admits his future at the club is unclear. He said: “Look, I love this place, I love this club.
“I love being here and that's really all I'll say on the matter.
“I've not really heard much recently, so all I can do is train hard every day.
“Every day I step on the pitch, I enjoy playing for the Rangers because I know how special the club is to play for.
“Every time I step on the pitch, I give it 100 per cent, and I'm sure the rest will take care of itself.
“Look, whatever happens, will happen.
“But every time I pull on that jersey, I'm honoured, and that will never change. Every time I step on that pitch, I'll give everything.
“There's a lot on my mind about how we're playing, to be honest. I don't have much time to think about anything else.
“But as I say, look, I love being here. That's the main thing.”
Rangers boss Russell Martin heaped huge praise on Souttar after handing him the armband for last night's win Champions League qualifying over Viktoria Plzen.
But he also insists he’s happy to leave it to Sporting Director Kevin Thelwell and club chiefs to sort out the stopper's contract situation.
Martin added: “John knows how I feel about him. Kevin and the gang know how I feel about him.
“He’s been great and I think he’s going to be really important for us.
“But on the contract front, it will be dictated by John, his agent and the hierarchy here.
“I’ll keep giving my opinion, for sure, but it’s not my job to sort that stuff out.
“I think John has real leadership qualities and he can definitely step into that.
“You have a few other guys who can do that.
“But I chose John because I believe he has the respect of everyone in the dressing room.
“He’s played really well for us already and showed real willingness to do what we’re asking him to do.
“He’s a man and we have quite a young group on the whole.
“It was an important choice for us and he did brilliantly, and if he does it again, he’ll keep getting better.”
