KEMPTON

6.20: Mad Dash 4/1 (1pt)

6.50: Crown Imperial 11/4 (1pt) & Ashdown Forest 40/1 each-way (0.5pt)

7.20: Comte De Loir 7/2 (1pt)

Mad Dash

Kempton is often used as a debut for many horses as it’s a great track to introduce them to racing as it’s a lovely flat rounded course on the all-weather.

Blue Point fillies lead the betting, Likeness and Dandana both who’ve fetched a healthy price for their respective owners and as such have some expectations attached.

But the betting suggests this is a wide open contest, unsurprisingly with so many debutants.

Sometimes smart types are just waiting in the wings going undetected for their first run.

One such filly could be Ladiapur who’s seen a bit of interest this morning.

By Showcasing and out of The Wagon Wheel the filly trained by Charlie Fellows and ridden by Richard Kingscote could run well on debut.

But so could half sister Mad Dash, who’s out of Miss Dashwood, trained by Andrew Balding and ridden by Oisin Murphy.

The dam has produced five winners including Dashing Willougby who won on the all-weather on his debut over 1m.

Interestingly, the dam has mostly seen her horses go on to be between 1m and 2m but with this horse being by Showcasing, the emphasis will be on the sprints.

Crown Imperial

Skimmer won on debut at Leicester over 1m2f and has the backing of punters as the odds-on favourite, as he appeals on many grounds.

Not just being a Kingman colt, owned by Juddmonte but of course holds a lot of promise after that debut.

However, Crown Imperial was a bit of an eyecatcher as the favourite as she eventually got her head down and made progress.

The step up by a furlong as a Frankel colt will likely be met with progress and appeals to me more than the odds-on favourite who has to carry a 6lb penalty.

I think there can also be a small case made each-way at most really, for Ashdown Forest.

He was very slowly away on debut all the way back in October at Goodwood, and could never get on terms with the winner (Castle Gates) after that but did forge on to go second despite that poor start.

That winner, now rated 92, suggests there could be more to come from Ashdown Forest.

Comte De Loir

Kingdom Of Stars was close up on both starts here over 2m but there is something to be said about a horse who has just struggled to get his head in front on three occasions this year.

That opens it up for Molten Sea and Comte De Loir who really have form over 2m including a course and distance victory for the latter and the tip.

The four-year-old is still very unexposed and placed well after winning at Kempton and going well at Newcastle and Lingfield since before a small break.
