After a solid 3-1 win over the Czech Republic they were held to a goalless draw by Slovenia before losing 2-1 to Germany in the final group game to squeeze through with four points. Defensive foundations were crucial to their title win last time out, indeed, they did not concede all tournament so it is a concern that they were picked apart so easily by Germany in the first half of that clash. With Liam Delap pulling out of the squad to play for Chelsea in the Club World Cup, the Young Lions are missing a focal point and goalkeeper James Beadle is a big downgrade on their previous stopper James Trafford. They now face a Spain side who beat Slovakia and Romania before playing out a 1-1 draw with Italy to round off the group stage. This is an experienced La Rojita team, as 13 of their squad are 22 or 23 years old, and they won nine of their ten qualifiers to get to this point. A number of these players featured in the Under-23 side who won Olympic gold last summer and they are fancied to win this last-eight clash.

Special of the day - Borussia Dortmund to win and both teams to score - 19/10

Mamelodi Sundowns were good value for their 1-0 win over Ulsan HD in their first group game and could get on the scoresheet against Borussia Dortmund in their second. The South African side have scored in all of their last ten games and may fancy their chances of netting against a BVB outfit who were held to a 0-0 draw by Fluminense in their opener. The European side’s quality should show, however, and Dortmund are fancied to win a game in which both teams score.

Longshot of the day - Portugal Under-21 -2 vs Netherlands Under-21 - 8/1

The Netherlands Under-21 side were not convincing in the group stage, drawing with Finland and losing to Denmark before a 2-0 victory over Ukraine in the final match saw them progress. The same cannot be said for Portugal, who put nine past Georgia and Poland in their two matches. That attacking talent could make this a one-sided affair and a chance is taken on Portugal to overcome a two-goal deficit on the handicap.
