Mexico vs Saudi Arabia Predicted Starting Lineups for Gold Cup Quarterfinal

Mexico is set to take on Saudi Arabia in the Concacaf Gold Cup quarterfinal, with Mexico favored to progress after an undefeated group stage. Punters might consider betting on Mexico to qualify for the next round given their strong performance so far, though Saudi Arabia could potentially present a challenge.

Mexico Football continues its Concacaf Gold Cup journey with a challenging quarterfinal draw against Saudi Arabia Football in Arizona on Saturday. Mexico went undefeated in Group A, topping the group with two wins and one draw for seven points.

El Tri defeated the Dominican Republic 3-2 in the tournament opener two weeks ago, then dispatched Suriname 2-0 before settling for a goalless draw with Costa Rica on Sunday. Mexico and Costa Rica finished tied on points, but the Mexicans held a one-point advantage on goal difference.

Saudi Arabia, meanwhile, finished second in Group D behind the USA after earning one win, one draw and one loss in group play. They opened their tournament with a 1-0 win over Haiti before falling to the USA 1-0. The guest nation battled out a 1-1 draw with Trinidad & Tobago on Matchday 3 to secure qualification to the knockout rounds.

Mexico and Saudi Arabia have only faced each other on one other occasion at senior level, with the Mexicans prevailing 2-1 in a group stage game at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Saudi Arabia Predicted Lineup vs Mexico
Saudi Arabia have been without arguably their best and most important player in Salem Al-Dawsari all tournament, as the star winger has been fulfilling his club duties with Al-Hilal at the Club World Cup.

The Green Falcons have only scored two goals in the tournament so far, coming from the boots of Saleh Al-Shehri and Feras Albrikan. Hervé Renard will hope to give his attack a jolt, as they'll likely need a few goals if they want any chance to upset Mexico on Saturday.

Saudi Arabia predicted lineup (4-3-3): Newaf Al-Aqidi (GK) – Ali Majrashi, Abdulelah Al-Amri, Abdullah Madu, Saud Abdulhamid – Ziyad Aljohani, Ayman Yahya, Mukhtar Ali – Firas Albrikan, Saleh Al-Sherhi, Abdulrahman Al-Oboud.

Mexico Predicted Lineup vs Saudi Arabia
Javier Aguirre will be missing a key piece for his side's quarterfinal clash on Saturday, as center-back Cesar Montes will be unavailable due to yellow card accumulation. Montes is Mexico's top scorer at the tournament so far, scoring three times from corners, including a brace against Suriname.

Montes won't be the only significant absence, as Mexico announced on Thursday that midfielder Luis Chavez tore his ACL in training and has left the national team camp.

As they have for years, El Tri's hopes of progressing far in the tournament rest on the shoulders of striker Raul Jimenez, who has 35 goals in 109 caps. The Wolverhampton Wanderers forward has only managed one goal in the Gold Cup so far, and will be eager to make the difference against Saudi Arabia.

Mexico predicted lineup (4-2-3-1): Luis Malagon (GK) – Jorge Sanchez, Israel Reyes, Johan Vasquez, Mateo Chavez – Edson Alvarez, Luis Chavez – Roberto Alvarado, Marcel Ruiz, Alexis Vega – Raul Jimenez.

GIVEMESPORT has broken down the top earners in MLS for each position.

Mexico will be without a couple of key players when they face Saudi Arabia in the Gold Cup quarterfinals on Saturday.
