Leeds United's potential move for Kalvin Phillips could significantly influence betting outcomes, as his return could boost their chances of avoiding relegation and competing in the Premier League.
Leeds United are “firmly in the mix” to sign midfielder Kalvin Phillips this summer, according to LeedsUnited.News.
At the second time of asking, Daniel Farke guided Leeds back to the Premier League last season, winning the Championship title and recording 100 points in doing so.
Now, the German will hope he can buck the recent trend of newly promoted sides returning straight to the second tier.
The Whites have already made a number of additions for their return to the top flight, signing defenders Sebastiaan Bornauw, Jaka Bijol, and Gabriel Gudmundsson, along with former Wolfsburg forward Lukas Nmecha.
It is clear, however, that the West Yorkshire side will need more incomings.
Leeds have been linked with further deals in recent weeks and now, it is being suggested that United could make a move for one of their best former players in recent years.
Phillips Back to Elland Road?
According to Graeme Bailey, as per LeedsUnited.News, the Whites are “monitoring the situation” of Kalvin Phillips.
Under the influence of Marcelo Bielsa, Phillips developed into an incredible deep-lying playmaker, becoming a crucial cog in the Leeds side that finished ninth in the 2020/21 Premier League season.
A big-money move to Manchester City came in 2022 but, since then, Phillips, who has been called a "very good player," has struggled for consistency.
He has not played for the club since 2023, having joined West Ham on loan to end the 2023/24 season and spending the previous campaign on loan with newly-promoted Ipswich Town.
Kalvin Phillips 24/25 Season Stats
Competition | Appearances | Goals | Yellow Cards | Minutes Played
Premier League | 19 | 0 | 4 | 1,240'
FA Cup | 2 | 1 | 0 | 158'
League Cup | 1 | 0 | 0 | 66'
Phillips looks set to depart the Etihad once more this summer, either on loan or permanently.
Leeds are, of course, familiar with the midfielder, who would offer top-flight experience to a squad in need of such a thing.
The Whites are well-stocked in midfield, but that is not to say that they won’t look to further reinforce their options ahead of what will be a critical campaign.
Whether or not there is a homecoming for Phillips, however, remains to be seen.
