Viktor Gyokeres is making a strong push to join Arsenal by personally contacting Sporting Lisbon's president to expedite his transfer. Given his commitment and the Gunners' reported agreement on personal terms, punters might find favorable odds on Arsenal successfully securing the striker, potentially enhancing their title challenge in the upcoming season.
Number one Arsenal striker target Viktor Gyokeres has sent private messages to Sporting Lisbon president Frederico Varandas to try and speed up a move to the Emirates, journalist Fabrizio Romano has confirmed in his latest YouTube video on Tuesday.
The Gunners had been linked with Gyokeres and RB Leipzig centre-forward Benjamin Sesko in the early stages of the summer window, but director of football Andrea Berta has now stepped up negotiations to bring the former to north London.
Gyokeres 'Asking' President to Approve Arsenal Deal It has been reported for weeks now that Gyokeres is determined to seal a move to the Premier League - and specifically Arsenal - during the summer transfer window. While the 27-year-old hasn't rejected the chance to link up with Ruben Amorim at Manchester United again, the Sweden international is giving priority to a switch to work under Mikel Arteta at the Emirates.
Negotiations have been slow due to a dispute between player and club over an alleged promise that Sporting would sell Gyokeres for a lower price, with negotiations continuing between all parties. Romano has revealed in his latest YouTube video that Gyokeres has sent 'private' messages to Sporting director Varandas to plea for him to facilitate a move to Arsenal, with the player even willing to give up €2m of his own salary to go towards the deal. He said:
"What I can add today as a detail, Victor Gyokeres also sent some private personal messages to the president of Sporting. So not only speaking to the directors, to the management, but also sending some personal messages to the president of Sporting to ask him to go to Arsenal. Gyokeres is really doing everything, he gave up on €2 million from his salary package for that money to go on the proposal and help Arsenal to facilitate the deal with Sporting, who are being very strong and very tough in these negotiations, But Gyokeres is being very strong and very clear with Sporting too."
Arsenal Agree Personal Terms With Gyokeres While negotiations over a final transfer fee continue between Arsenal and Sporting, the Gunners have reportedly made better progress in terms of personal terms with the striker himself. The north London side are said to have agreed a five-year contract worth £200,000-a-week with the former Coventry City man according to CaughtOffside, with the striker doing everything to make a move happen.
Should he arrive at the Emirates, Gyokeres would be competing with Kai Havertz for a spot through the middle in Arteta's starting XI next season as Arsenal look to win the Premier League title and go a step or two further in the Champions League.
