GIRLS LACROSSE: Finger Lakes all-league selections announced

The 2025 girls lacrosse season in the Finger Lakes League showcased the Palmyra-Macedon Red Raiders as the top team, finishing with a 15-4 record. Both the Red Raiders and the Waterloo Tigers reached Section V championship games in their respective classes, with Waterloo's junior Maci Mueller earning Player of the Year honors and All-American status. Pal-Mac's senior Taryn Goodness was named Defensive Player of the Year.

Pal-Mac had a strong showing in the all-league selections, placing six players on the first team, including Goodness and junior Teagan Hudak, who was co-Midfield Player of the Year with Myah Herron from Mynderse Academy/Romulus. Waterloo also excelled with three first-team players, including Mueller and junior Bailey Rossignol.

The competitive nature of the league was evident, highlighted by a renewed Mynderse/Waterloo rivalry in the semifinals. Other notable players included Geneva's Maddie Askin, Wayne Central's Isabella Velte (Attack Player of the Year), and Newark/Midlakes' freshman Zoey Overslaugh. Overall, the season set a promising foundation for future competitions in the league.

This 2025 girls lacrosse season featured the Palmyra-Macedon Red Raiders as the best team in the Finger Lakes League. The Red Raiders and the Waterloo Tigers each appeared in a Section V championship game in their respective classes, and the two sides were well represented in the all-league selections. Junior Maci Mueller of Waterloo (10-7) was named Player of the Year in the league while senior Taryn Goodness from Pal-Mac (15-4) was Defensive Player of the Year. Mueller also was awarded All-American status, one of six players in Section V to receive the honor. Goodness wasn’t the only Red Raider to receive an individual award. Junior teammate Teagan Hudak was co-Midfield Player of the Year with senior Myah Herron from Mynderse Academy/Romulus (5-12). The Mynderse/Waterloo rivalry was renewed during this year’s Section V Class D semifinals on the campus of Wayne Central, and it was Waterloo claimed that title game spot against top-seeded Penn Yan Academy. For those efforts, Waterloo had three players named first-team all-league. Along with Mueller at midfield were junior Bailey Rossignol, who made first-team for attack, along with seventh-grader Kinsley Bree who earned first-team honors at the midfield position. On the other side of that highly-anticipated semifinal meeting, Herron and senior teammate Chelsea Korzeniewski both made first-team for Mynderse/Romulus, Herron at midfield and Korzeniewski at attack. Pal-Mac led the way for the league by having six players named to the first-team lists. They included: Hudak at midfield, Goodness on defense along with senior Jenna Santelli and freshman Brinn Castrechini at the attack position. Senior Lily Boesel and freshman Baylee Vilord also made first-team for midfield with Hudak. All six helped guided the 2025 Red Raiders team past Aquinas Institute/World of Inquiry School during in the Section V Class C semifinals. Geneva (14-4) put together a season to build on going forward with a young program. Junior Maddie Askin at goalie, junior Meghan Forbes at attack and eighth-grader Makenna Harris at midfield each made first-team for the Panthers. Wayne Central (9-8) had a productive season this year and that was thanks to senior Isabella Velte, who was named Attack Player of the Year for the league while also earning a first-team spot at the attack position. Velte saw two of her teammates make first team as well. Senior Samantha Branner at midfield/defense and junior Lauren Twist at midfield both earned first-team honors for Wayne. Marcus Whitman (4-13) had seniors Helen Snyder and Raegan Weissinger along with eighth-grade teammate Aubriella Bowman each earn second-team for attack/midfield. For Newark/Midlakes (2-15), freshman Zoey Overslaugh earned first- team at midfield. Juniors Lexi Gallina and Ella Michaels from Gananda/Marion (0-16) made third-team for midfield while Livonia/Avon/Geneseo (9-8) had junior Lily Rowe on attack and junior Maddie Whitford at midfield to earn first team spots for those positions.
