Transfer Radar: Bayern Munich’s Max Eberl made sales pitch during intensive talks with VfB Stuttgart’s Nick Woltemade

Bayern Munich is reportedly close to signing striker Nick Woltemade from VfB Stuttgart, who has rejected extension offers from his current club. It now looks like Bayern is going to be adding a solid Harry Kane backup to their ranks. All of the focus for Bayern Munich’s summer transfer window has been centered around finding a Florian Wirtz contingency option, but they have come out of left field and are now reportedly close to agreeing on a deal to sign Nick Woltemade from VfB Stuttgart.

Reports coming out of Germany have suggested that the 23-year-old striker has verbally agreed on terms with Bayern already for a long-term contract that would keep him in Munich through the summer of 2030. He wants to join the German Rekordmeister with immediate effect.

Per information from Bild’s Julian Agardi (via @iMiaSanMia), Max Eberl had intensive talks with Woltemade’s agent, Danny Bachmann last week to discuss personal terms of the proposed move. Eberl had left Bayern’s camp in Orlando, Florida for the FIFA World Cup under the pretense to continue to work on transfer business and it looks like the Woltemade deal was what was being pushed forward.

The striker has rejected Stuttgart’s contract extension offers, as his current contract with the Swabians runs through June 2028 and negotiations are set to begin with Bayern.

A deal could presumably be completed once the striker is back from the U-21 European Championships with Germany, where Woltemade has helped steer the Germans to the final to take on England’s U-21’s in Bratislava. He has scored 6 goals at the tournament thus far, coming after a season where he tallied 17 goals and 3 assists on the way to Stuttgart securing the DFB-Pokal title, beating DSC Arminia Bielefeld in the final in Berlin.

As Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg had reported, despite personal terms having already been agreed upon between Bayern and Woltemade, negotiations between the reigning Bundesliga champions and Stuttgart have not yet begun.

There also is not a release clause in his current contract at Stuttgart and the club does not necessarily want to sell him, however they will certainly have their price, especially if the player himself has expressed his desire to leave for Bayern.
