Jhostynxon Garcia Puts Himself On Prospect Radar For Red Sox

Jhostynxon Garcia is making waves in the Red Sox organization with a standout season, demonstrating improved plate discipline and power. Punters might want to consider betting on his potential to continue his upward trajectory, as his recent performance could signal a future MLB debut, increasing interest in Red Sox player props.

Last season, outfielder Jhostynxon Garcia began the season back at Low-A Salem, a level at which he had struggled in the previous season. In some ways, he was overshadowed by his younger brother Johanfran, a catcher who was also assigned to the same level.

But at 21, after spending much of the offseason working out at the Red Sox’s player development facility in Fort Myers, Fla., Jhostynxon (pronounced JOES-tin-son) quickly demonstrated at the start of 2024 that he was prepared for a breakout campaign. He hit .258/.365/.517 with five home runs in 24 games at the same level to earn the first of two promotions, ultimately settling at Double-A Portland. He ended the year with a .286/.356/.536 line and 23 homers, the most in Boston’s system.

Garcia, who signed out of Venezuela in 2019, earned a 40-man roster spot last November and has remained an up-arrow player in 2025. He opened the year back in Double-A, where he showed improved plate discipline and swing decisions while hitting .256/.355/.393 with a 13% walk rate and 21% strikeout rate, earning a promotion to Triple-A Worcester after 33 games.

“I think we can use him as a model for really buying into training. He’s done an unbelievable job of getting himself in optimal physical shape . . . and then at the same time, just grinding in the cage,” Red Sox assistant GM Eddie Romero said. “And I think the effects of that have shown—much improved ball flight, the bat speed we’re seeing, the impact that we expect to see—I think that’s why he’s put himself on the map.”

The Red Sox see the 22-year-old Garcia as a strong defender at all three outfield positions, and he has posted huge numbers against lefthanders. But the continued growth of his approach suggests a ceiling of a regular, a player with a solid hit tool and glove who has above-average power potential.

“Just the improvements that he’s made to his swing decisions, taking more walks. He’s cut back on his chase significantly,” Romero said. “Those are just the trademarks of somebody developing into a really good hitter.”

SOX YARNS— After spending most of 2024 while recovering from an ACL tear in his knee, catcher Johanfran Garcia—Jhostynxon’s 20-year-old brother—started a rehab assignment in May and was moved in June to High-A Greenville.

— Through two months of the 2025 season, first baseman Blaze Jordan had cut his chase rate from 37% in 2024 to 27% this year, helping to fuel a .320/.415/.513 start in Double-A Portland that resulted in a promotion to Triple-A in early June.
